Neck & Shoulder

We build the neck and upper back to hold up through the day, so the tension stops rebuilding by every afternoon.

Sound familiar?

Tension that builds through the day and follows you to bed

Your neck and shoulders tighten as the day goes on. By evening it’s a stiff, aching band across the top of the shoulders, maybe a headache creeping up from the base of the skull.

You’ve tried stretching it, a massage, cracking it, a new pillow. It loosens for a bit, then it’s right back by the next afternoon.

Here’s the thing: it’s usually not that you’re just tense. It’s that the neck and upper back can’t hold up to a full day of load, so the tension keeps rebuilding.

Why it keeps coming back

Loosening it isn’t the same as building it

A stretch, a massage, or an adjustment can give real short-term relief.

But if the neck, shoulder blades, and upper back can’t hold a position through a workday at the desk, hours on the phone, or a long drive, the tension comes right back, because nothing changed what the neck can tolerate.

The way out isn’t more loosening. It’s building the strength and endurance to hold you up through the day without paying for it.

The recovery roadmap

A 10-step path to a neck that holds up

We do not guess, and we do not hand you a sheet of exercises. Every recovery follows a proven progression, from settling the tension to building a neck that holds up through the day, so you always know where you are and what’s next. Each step has to be earned before you move on.

01

Pain, Swelling & Guarding

Calm pain, swelling, and protective muscle guarding so the area can heal.

02

General Mobility

Restore range of motion and get the joint moving freely again.

03

Local Muscle Strength

Rebuild strength in the muscles right around the injury.

04

Balance & Coordination

Retrain control, proprioception, and coordinated movement.

05

General Muscle Endurance

Build the endurance to handle repeated, everyday loads.

06

General Muscle Strength

Progress to full-body strength beyond the injured area.

07

Rate of Force Absorption

Train landing and decelerating so you can absorb force safely.

08

Rate of Force Production

Develop power and explosiveness for real-world demands.

09

Return to Full Load

Progress toward full daily and work loads with clear, tested milestones.

10

Return to Full Activity

Return to everything you need to do, tested and confident.

What’s different

Care built to actually fix the cause

The 10 steps are the map. These four things are how we run it, and why our clients get a neck that finally holds up.

A full hour, one-on-one

Every session is an hour with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. No aides, no rushed table time, no bouncing between machines.

We assess, we don’t guess

We find what is actually driving your pain: how you move, your strength, your load tolerance. No guessing from the spot that hurts.

A test to pass, not just more exercises

You progress by hitting real, measured milestones, so you know your neck is actually getting stronger, not just hoping it is.

Always in your pocket

Your plan, your progressions, and a line to your clinician live in the EVO app, so you are never guessing between sessions.

Who we help

If any of this is you

Tap the one that sounds like you.

Neck and traps that tighten through a workday at the desk+

We build the neck and upper-back endurance to hold you through the day, then fix the setup and habits feeding it.

Tension headaches that build up from the neck+

We address the neck movement and control behind cervicogenic headaches, so they stop starting.

Stiffness that’s worst first thing in the morning+

We work on the movement and tissue tolerance behind morning stiffness and give you a short routine that has you moving well in minutes.

Pain that flares with driving or long phone time+

We build tolerance for sustained positions so an hour in the car or on the phone stops setting you off.

A post-injury neck (like whiplash) rebuilding capacity+

We progressively rebuild strength and control until the neck handles everyday load with confidence again.

A pinched nerve sending pain or tingling down the arm+

We settle the nerve first, then restore the mobility and strength that keep it from coming back.

Whatever it looks like, the approach is the same: find the cause, build the capacity, keep it from coming back.

The research

The approach, backed up

Building the neck rather than just loosening it is where the evidence points.

The evidence, in one line

Across 27 randomized trials, strengthening the neck, shoulder blade, and upper back reduced chronic neck pain and improved function, while stretching alone did not produce the same benefit.

That’s the whole reason our process doesn’t stop at loosening you up: the strength and endurance to hold a position under load is what actually makes the relief last.
