Shoulder Pain

We rebuild the strength and control to move overhead again, most of the time without the surgery you’re picturing.

Sound familiar?

Reaching overhead, and paying for it

Somewhere along the way your shoulder stopped cooperating. Reaching up, lifting, or putting on a jacket catches it; lying on it at night wakes you up.

So you’ve started working around it: lifting less, reaching with the other arm, guarding the joint.

Here’s the thing: it’s usually not that the shoulder is falling apart. It’s that no one has rebuilt the strength and control the joint needs to move overhead without pain.

What most people aren’t told

You might not need the surgery you’re picturing

When a shoulder hurts to lift, the fear is that it’s headed for surgery. But most rotator-cuff and subacromial pain responds to rebuilding the shoulder: the strength, control, and capacity to move overhead under load.

Stopping at rest, a sling, or an injection quiets it without changing what the shoulder can do, which is why it comes back.

The way out is building the joint back up, not working around it.

The recovery roadmap

A 10-step path back to overhead

We do not guess, and we do not hand you a sheet of exercises. Every recovery follows a proven progression, from calming the joint to rebuilding strength overhead, so you always know where you are and what’s next. Each step has to be earned before you move on.

01

Pain, Swelling & Guarding

Calm pain, swelling, and protective muscle guarding so the area can heal.

02

General Mobility

Restore range of motion and get the joint moving freely again.

03

Local Muscle Strength

Rebuild strength in the muscles right around the injury.

04

Balance & Coordination

Retrain control, proprioception, and coordinated movement.

05

General Muscle Endurance

Build the endurance to handle repeated, everyday loads.

06

General Muscle Strength

Progress to full-body strength beyond the injured area.

07

Rate of Force Absorption

Train landing and decelerating so you can absorb force safely.

08

Rate of Force Production

Develop power and explosiveness for real-world demands.

09

Return-to-Overhead

Progress overhead loading and sport-specific demands step by step.

10

Return-to-Sport or Full Activity

Complete return testing and clearance with confidence.

What’s different

Care built to actually fix the cause

The 10 steps are the map. These four things are how we run it, and why our clients get a shoulder that finally holds up.

A full hour, one-on-one

Every session is an hour with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. No aides, no rushed table time, no bouncing between machines.

We assess, we don’t guess

We find what is actually driving your pain: how you move, your strength, your load tolerance. No guessing from the spot that hurts.

A test to pass, not just more exercises

You progress by hitting real, measured milestones, so you know your shoulder is actually getting stronger, not just hoping it is.

Always in your pocket

Your plan, your progressions, and a line to your clinician live in the EVO app, so you are never guessing between sessions.

Who we help

If any of this is you

Tap the one that sounds like you.

Overhead pain reaching or lifting+

We rebuild the cuff and shoulder-blade control that let you get overhead without the pinch, then load it for real life.

Can’t sleep on that shoulder+

We calm the irritated tissue and restore the strength around the joint so lying on it stops waking you up.

A weak, painful shoulder that isn’t torn through+

We build the cuff and surrounding control back up so the shoulder stops guarding and starts trusting load again.

Been told you might need a “clean-up” surgery+

We build the shoulder first, since for many people that’s enough, and you’ll know you gave it a real shot.

A post-op cuff repair rebuilding capacity+

We bridge cleared to confident, progressively loading the shoulder until it’s ready for everything you want back.

A frozen shoulder that’s stealing your range+

We work with the stages of frozen shoulder, restoring motion as it allows and rebuilding strength as it thaws.

Whatever it looks like, the approach is the same: find the cause, rebuild the capacity, keep it from coming back.

The research

The approach, backed up

Building the shoulder before reaching for the operating room is where the evidence points.

The one study that shapes how we treat

In a placebo-controlled surgical trial, the common keyhole “decompression” operation for subacromial shoulder pain worked no better than a sham operation, leading the authors to question the value of the surgery for this problem.

That’s the whole reason we build the shoulder up first: for most people, the strength and control matter more than the scalpel.
